....for fielding ‘injured’ Gyan against Sudan
Al Ain coach Cosmin Olaroiu is fuming over Asamoah Gyan’s involvement in the 2014 World Cup qualifier against Sudan despite picking an injury.

The Ghana captain picked up a thigh strain in the lead up to the crucial qualifier but was declared fit by the Black Starsmedical team to feature against the Nile Crocodiles after scans revealed the injury wasn’t serious. The 27-year-old however after scoring in the comprehensive 4-0 win aggravated the injury which will now keep him out of action for a yet to be announced period.

This means Olaroiu will be without his leading marksman when Al Ain hosts Al Shabab on Friday as Gyan returned to Abu Dhabi earlier this week injured. This has got the Romanian coach extremely furious as he vented his anger on Ghana FA officials for allowing the ex Sunderland striker to play the game last Sunday through the pain barrier.

“He picked up an injury in a friendly match when preparing for the qualifier, but still played, made his injury worse and had to be substituted,” said Olaroiu.

“The risk of Gyan playing should not have been taken. I’m disappointed the Ghana officials took the decision when he was already suffering with an injury.”

Olaroiu’s plight is even worsened ahead of Friday’s game against Al Shabab with news fellow star striker Omar Abdulrahman is also out with a yet to be revealed illness.
