Alhaji Grusah arraigned before court

Sunyani, Feb 22, GNA - The Sunyani Circuit Court on Thursday granted a 10 million cedis bail to Alhaji Karim Grusah, Chairman of Kumasi-based King Faisal Football Club for allegedly assaulting a policeman at the Coronation Park during the epic match between his Club and Kumasi Asante Kotoko.

Alhaji Grusah who is aldo the founder of the Club was alleged to have slapped Sergeant Isaac Adu on February 18, 2007 for being prevented from assaulting referee Reginald Larthbridge for alleged biased officiating of the match.

He pleaded not guilty to a charge of assault on a public officer and was granted bail with one surety to reappear on March 14, 2007. Chief Inspector Kingsley Baafi told the court presided over by Mr. Kofi Debrah that on the day of the incident just before the recess, Alhaji Grusah moved from the VIP lounge to the Match Commissioner to protest against the referee.

He said during the recess, the Alhaji Grusah confronted the referee and made an attempt to assault him but was prevented by security personnel and as Sergeant Adu escorted referee Larthbridge to the dressing room The founder of the Club followed up with insults and slapped the policeman.

The prosecutor said the police arrested and whisked the Alhaji Grusah to the Sunyani Police station where he was granted police enquiry.

Just after the court proceedings, supporters of Alhaji Grusah led by his son, Kamel Accoster attempted to attack the Graphic Sports reporter in front of the court premises, accruing the reporter of writing a story on him without asking of his side of the story but the timely intervention of the Police managed to bring the situation under control. 22 Feb. 07
