Amponsah to miss South Africa game

Accra, June 6, GNA - Black Stars central defender, Kofi Amponsah has been hit with a severe ankle injury and would be out of action for the next two weeks or more.

Amponsah who sustained the injury in the first half of the World Cup qualifying game against Burkina Faso last Sunday at the Baba Yara Sports stadium, Kumasi has had his ankle placed in cast, after X'ray examinations revealed that the ligaments in the player's ankle had been badly bruised.

The defender who was returning to the team after missing the last game against DR Congo as a result of head injury was compelled to pave the way for Issah Ahmed in last Sunday's game against Ghana's northern neighbours.

Dr Martin Engmann, the medical officer in charge of the team told the Meanwhile, Emmanuel Addoquaye Pappoe will also miss the game against South Africa due to a one-match suspension placed on him by Confederation of Africa Football (CAF).

Pappoe received his second yellow card in the qualifiers last Sunday, when the Stars played the Stallions of Burkina Faso at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium last Sunday.

Pappoe's absence will be his first for the Stars since the qualifiers began last year.
