English-born Ghanaian attacker Andy Yiadom has left Barnet to join Barnsley in a cash-plus-player deal, the club has announced.

Yiadom, 24, joins The Tykes on a free transfer having made 177 appearances for the Bees since joining in 2012 but defender Jack Cowgill going the other way.

The versatile full-back scored seven goals in 43 appearances last season as Barnet finished 15th in the league.

He spoke to Barnsley Media after completing the move.

Yiadom was asked about meeting his teammates and what he hopes to achieve in the coming season, as well as how intense the Play-Off push was last season for him, considering he signed for the Reds before the final!

He explained, “I wanted them to do as well as possible and they made it through, so it was good that they got promoted so I can come in as a Championship player, I was delighted for them.Obviously I was keeping close tabs – I was on holiday, I was delighted.”

After it being well-known that Barnsley had held Yiadom in high-regard for some time, the former Barnet player was pleased to get his transfer over the line.

He said, “I was pleased, it was dragging on but I was at Barnet just doing my best for them, but when it got done I was delighted.”

Moving forward to this campaign, Yiadom knows he is entering a talented squad and hopes help out immediately, as well as learning along the way after stepping up two divisions.

He stated, “We’re out there for pre-season, everyone is training and getting information for us to be developed as players. When the season starts, I’m confident that I can make an impact.

“No disrespect to the other teams, but it’s a real jump. I’m looking forward to playing against better players and bigger teams.

“There are great players here and they proved that last year by getting promoted. I can learn a thing or two off each player!”
