Annual SWAG match scheduled to come on as planned

Accra, Dec. 01, GNA - The annual Sports Writers Association of Ghana (SWAG) match between Ashgold and Kumasi Asante Kotoko will definitely come off at the Obuasi Len Clay Sports stadium on Sunday, December 17.

The Nyemitei Cup which is at stake will witness a crunch match between the two sides and is expected to see a sell-out crowd following the 1-0 victory chalked by Kotoko over their rivals in their Premier League fixture at the Robert Mensah Stadium at Cape Coast.

It is for this reason that the SWAG match is expected to see fire-works as Ashgold gear up to seek revenge over their defeat. Cudjoe Fianno, Chief Executive Officer of Ashgold said the Nyemitei Cup offers a perfect platform for the Club to rekindle the confidence of its supporters following the painful defeat to Kotoko at Cape Coast. Ebo Quansah, the under-fire President of the SWAG said a fleet of buses have been arranged to commute from Kumasi to Obuasi to convey sports lovers to and from the stadium to witness the titanic clash. The match which is being sponsored by the State Insurance Company of Ghana Limited is to honour the memory of the late Henry Plange Nyemitei, one-time Deputy Managing Director of the SIC and a Chief Patron of SWAG. Meanwhile, the President of SWAG, Quansah has said that the entire executive of the association are still at post and denied that they have stepped aside implying that the executive have resigned from office. He said the statement issued by Maurice Quansah, assistant secretary of the Association followed the resignation of the SWAG's Electoral Commissioner, Harry Mouzalas after what he termed a riotous meeting at the New Times Corporation last Tuesday and that the executive will not take part in an election that lost its credibility.

It would be recalled that Maurice Quansah sent a press release stating that the entire executives were stepping down ahead of the elections slated for Saturday.

He mentioned the President, Ebo Quansah, Kwabena Yeboah, vice president, he the assistant secretary, Ms Rosalind Amoh, treasurer and Mr Ben Ohene-Ayeh, member as those stepping down. The release said the decision was taken following events during and after the mergency meeting last Tuesday and in the supreme interest of SWAG and went ahead to name two others who had filed their nominations, namely Mathias Tibu and Nii Manle-Adsei for thre positions of assistant secretary and executive member as having stepped down as well.
