Western Sydney Wanderers continued to ride their luck in the Asian Champions League but there is a confidence within the club it can progress to the final after avoiding defeat in the first leg of their semi-final.
The players were disappointed after being outplayed by FC Seoul for almost the entire match but, in a game where results mean everything, Seoul’s wasteful finishing gave the Wanderers a chance to reach the final.
The Wanderers were guilty of an abundance of errors which led to most of Seoul’s chances, but managed to escape punishment.
“I am a bit disappointed,” Wanderers winger Kwabena Appiah said. “We didn’t play as well as we would have liked but, at the end of the day, a nil-all result away from home is a good thing.
“We have high expectations here, and we know we could have played a bit better, but we will be ready in two weeks.”
There was a subdued tone among the players after the game but Appiah said they fancied their chances of winning the second-leg, which will be played on home soil in front of their passionate supporters.
“This sets up a good chance for us to make the final and I’m confident we will make the final so I’m not worried about anything,” he said.
“I’m more confident [now than before]. I was always confident and I’m still confident. Even if we lost I would still be confident we would make the final.”
