Ex-Ghana captain Stephen Appiah has ruled out a return to the domestic league. Appiah, 32, has been unattached since he completed a six-month deal with Serbian top-flight side FK Volvodina back in June.
The former Juventus player was on the verge of signing for Iranian giants Persepolis in November until Coach Manuel Jose rejected signing the player at the eleventh hour.
Appiah enjoyed a terrific three-year spell with his boyhood club Hearts between 1995-97 and it was widely believed he could consider playing for one of the local sides to revive his career.
But the former Udinese man has played down on the suggestions insisting he has no interest in playing domestic football.
“Playing in the local league. I don’t think so. But anyway you can never say never,” Appiah said
“We’ll see what happens. But to be honest with you, playing here is going to be very difficult.
“We live in a real world man, after playing 13 years in Europe and you have to come back to play here? No.
“The facilities here are not good and other matters. But let’s wait and see how it goes.”
After leaving Hearts of Oak, Appiah’s stock rose with spells at Udinese, Parma and Juventus before a move to Turkish giants Fenerbahce between 2005-2008 effectively halted his career.
