Ghana coach Kwesi Appiah is worried that the growing spate of injuries could affect the Black Stars chances of excelling at the 2014 World Cup in June.
Several key players of the Black Stars are currently out with various degrees which is giving the coach of the four-time African champions a severe headache with the tournament in Brazil looming.
AC Milan ace Sulley Muntari and in-form hot striker Abdul Majeed Waris were all ruled out of action for their clubs in Europe this weekend following injuries.
Dependable and workaholic midfielder Rabiu Mohammed is struggling to return to action after an operation while there is no set date for the return of the towering central defender Isaac Vorsah who has been out since last year.
Appiah is getting worried because he is aware that the absence of these players during the tournament in Brazil could wreck their changes of excelling at the tournament.
“I must admit that I am gradually getting worried because of these injuries. Rabui, Waris, Muntari and Vorsah are all out because of various forms of injuries,” Appiah was quoted as saying on Sports Crusader.
“I pray they get back on time because these are all influential players in my team.
“A year ago I would have immediately said that the national team has a big chance to get far in the World Cup.
“Of course there are Spain and Brazil, but our team was incredibly impressive in the qualifiers.
“The last tournament and the successes of Ghana suggest that we might get very far. On the other hand, the injuries are a big problem.”
Ghana have been drawn in the Group of Death where they will play Germany, Portugal and USA.
