Former Ghana striker Augustine Arhinful has expressed confidence in Head Coach Kwesi Appiah’s competence and ability to guide the Black Stars through the 2014 World Cup once Ghana qualifies past Egypt on November 19.

“For Kwesi Appiah to be able to manage these players mean he has done well. We all don’t know what happened with the Sulley Muntari and the Ayew brothers but he managed the situation with Sulley Muntari.

“Ghana is the second highest scoring team in the World Cup qualifiers apart from Spain so I don’t see the reason why people are bringing the word competence into this,” Arhinful told Live 91.9FM Sports.

He added that, “I feel that he is more than competent to handle the team whether in the Nations Cup, the World Cup or qualifiers. He has done so well and I don’t think that we should try to put any impediment on his way by raising an issue of appointing a technical director or a help.”

Ghana is on the verge of qualifying to the Brazil 2014 tournament after the Black Stars recorded a 6-1 win victory over the Pharaohs in the first leg.

The senior national team, who are chasing a third successful qualification to the World Cup, now need to avoid conceding five goals against the seven times African champions to book a place at the mundial.
