Accra, Aug. 27, GNA - Ghana Army collected 20 Gold, 22 Silver and 14 Bronze medals to win this year's Ghana Armed Forces Inter Service Sports Festival which ended at the Nicholson Stadium at Burma Camp in Accra on Friday. Navy came second with 14 gold, six silver and 13 bronze medals while Air-Force placed third with eight gold, 14 silver and 14 bronze medals.
21 players who excelled in the games including Sgt. Lomotey Tagoe and Patience Ocloo both of Air Force received special prizes. Lt-Gen. J.B. Danquah, Chief of the Defence Staff said sports, apart from providing entertainment, also provide a platform for healthy interaction. He said participation in sports also promotes physical fitness in many endeavours, adding that the games was a special forum that will help the Armed Forces select a formidable team towards the annual military games.
Lt.Gen. Danquah commended the officiating officials for ensuring a peaceful and incident-free competition.
