Arsenal legend, Tony Adams, who was in the country to launch the third season of Airtel’s grassroots football initiative, Airtel Rising Stars, has paid a courtesy call on the Vice President Kwesi Amissah-Arthur at his office at the Flagstaff House in Accra.
The Arsenal legend met with the Vice President in the company of the British High Commissioner Peter Jones, Managing Director Philip Sowah and other officials of Airtel Ghana.
Tony Adams, who played for the ‘Gunners’ for 22 years and captained them for 14 years, was extremely delighted to be informed that the Vice President was an ardent fan of Arsenal FC.
After discussions about Arsenal and its performance so far, the football legend then added that his main purpose for being in the country was to launch the third season of the Airtel Rising Stars and to interact with Arsenal fans through media interviews and a fan park where there was a live screening of the English Premier League football match between Manchester United and Arsenal at the handball court of the University of Ghana, Legon.
The Managing Director of Airtel Ghana, Philip Sowah, stated that Airtel Rising Stars (ARS) was a football initiative sponsored by Airtel in partnership with Samsung which sought to unearth bright soccer talents from the grass roots level and nurture them into becoming football stars.
According to him, the current Black Maidens Captain Priscilla Okyere, who led her team to win a bronze medal at the FIFA U – 17 world football tournament, was a product of the previous season of ARS as well as others who were now successfully playing for the country’s U-17 male and female football teams.
The team from Airtel then presented the Vice President with a framed jersey autographed by all current players of the Arsenal Football team.
An elated Mr Amissah-Arthur thanked the team for the kind gesture.
