Black Stars captain Asamoah Gyan has donated ten bags of rice and an undisclosed amount of money to support the 2016 edition of the Sheikh Sharubutu Ramadan Cup.
The Shanghai SIPG striker sent a delegation to deliver his contribution to the organizers of the event who extended a request to him for support.
Delivering the donation on behalf of the Black Stars captain, Prince Opoku Afriyie, the Operations Manager of the Asamoah Gyan Foundation said Gyan is committed to helping to maintain peace in the country, hence his decision to support the Ramadan Cup which is for peace sensitization.
“Gyan is committed to helping to maintain peace in the country as well as supporting sporting disciplines, hence this decision.
“It is our hope that this donation will be able to support the event to achieve its fullest objective,” he added.
Gyan has been a great philanthropist in the country helping in the construction of wells and other sports facilities in many institutions in the country.
Not too long ago, he donated $10,000 to the Korle Bu Cardio Center and was voted the 2015 Sports Philanthropist of the Year by the Sports Writers Association of Ghana (SWAG).
