CHESTER CITY striker Derek Asamoah could be heading for the World Cup after being called up for Ghana's pre-tournament friendly with Nice next Tuesday.
The 25-year-old, who will be in Mark Wright's squad when City entertain Shrewsbury at the Deva tomorrow, received his first international call-up on the back of eight goals since joining the club on a long-term loan deal from Lincoln City in January. Asamoah will link up in the squad with Chelsea midfielder Michael Essien.
City director Paul Baker said: "This is a great opportunity for Derek.
"Obviously his performances with Chester have put him in the shop window and hopefully he can impress sufficiently to earn a place in the Ghanaian squad.
