Wednesday’s Copa del Rey match between Atletico Madrid and Sant Andreu at the Vicente Calderon had something special for Skillnet Sports Management and its young product, Isaac Asare.
Having won 4-0 in the first leg, coach Diego Simeone opted to rest his big guns. Midfielder Asare, also known as ‘Nass’, was named among the senior squad for the encounter. He made the bench as the Rojiblancos won 2-1 on the night, booking Last 16 tickets thanks to a 6-1 aggregate triumph.
“It was great news for me to be called into the first team,” the Atletico B player revealed.
“Every minute of it [the Copa del Rey match] was a great experience for me. From the bench, I was just patient watching how the game was going and also hoping and waiting for my chance.”
He added:
“I couldn't get my chance but I hope to get it the next time.”
Reaffirming his belief in receiving another call up to the senior team and stepping on the pitch to kick balls, the young Ghanaian footballer concluded:
“I'm very sure that I will get another chance to be with the 1st team and hopefully, I will get some minutes to play.”
Isaac Asare, who will turn 20 on New Year’s Day, has transformed into a symbol of success at Skillnet. After impressing scouts, the midfielder was offered a trial at RSD Alcala where he moved to Rayo Vallecano B on loan. Standing out above the rest of his team mates at Rayo, Nass was poached by Club Atletico de Madrid. He signed a contract with the B side ahead of the 2013/14 season.
