GHANA and Togo held a one-day athletics meet at the Kumasi Sports Stadium last Saturday to help unearth talents for both countries.
The competition was the first of three separate programmes earmarked for participation between both countries.
The male side competed in 400m, 800m, long jump, triple jump, 5000m, 10,000m, discuss and javelin whilst the females vied for honours in 400m, 400m hurdles, 800m, 1,500m, discuss, long jump and triple jump.
In the women’s 400m hurdles, Rosina Amegadegbe of Ghana came first in a time of 1min. 09.6 secs with Awooni Zuni Ayao and Sekou Damila both of Togo coming second and third respectively.
In the men’s division, Saben Philip of Ghana placed first in a time of 56.9 secs edging out Eugene Ofori also of Ghana and Kini Ayao of Togo to second and third places.
Gifty Addy of Ghana won the women’s 400m in a time of 55.8 secs in an all-Ghana affair.
The men’s division was also an all-Ghana affair with James Awalime placing first in an impressive time of 48.6 secs.
