Kumasi, Feb 14, GNA - Mr J. Atta-Baffour has been elected Chairman of the Ashanti Regional branch of the Referees Association of Ghana (RAG) at its general meeting held at Kumasi. He polled 60 votes to beat the incumbent Chairman, E.K. Asante, who had 28 votes at the election supervised by the Electoral Commission (EC).
Mr Alhassan Brobbey retained his position as the Regional Vice-Chairman unopposed.
Mr F. Osei-Nsiah also retained his post as secretary when he beat Sergeant J.B. Debrah by 59 votes to 29 votes while Mr Brefo Takyiakwa retained his position as Assistant Secretary also unopposed. Also retaining his post as trainer was Mr I.B. Owusu-Manu who beat Mr Mike Amedior by 55 votes to 33 votes with Mr Tabi Amponsah also retaining his position as assistant trainer by beating Mr G.K. Manu by 58 votes to 30 votes.
Mr Agyenim Boateng was elected unopposed to the position of treasurer.
Mr C.K. Yeboah, Chairman of the Ashanti Regional Football Association (RFA) in an address after the elections, implored the referees to work on their fitness to avoid what happened to their colleagues at the just-ended CAN 2006 in Egypt. He also advised them to ensure fairness and interpret the rules and regulations of the game without fear and favour so as to prevent any indiscipline acts
