Attuquayefio envisages a better year

Accra, March 28, GNA - Sir Cecil Jones Attuquayefio, head coach of Dansoman-based Liberty Professionals said he envisages a creamy season for the Club ahead of this years Premiership's whose commencement is tied to mid July.

Liberty turns ten this year and the former Hearts of Oak coach insists the timing is opportune for the team to take the local league by storm and glitter in Africa as well.

Coach Attuquayefio told the GNA Sports that "the moment to prove our worth is now and we are preparing to take what we know befits our status".

The Dansoman-based club has often finished among the first five since joining the elite division about six years ago with performances that usually earn them among the pre-season favourites. The team has once participated at the continental level but has failed to wrestle power from the country's two most glamorous clubs, Accra Hearts of Oak and Kumasi Asante Kotoko largely because of the consistency in player transfers at the end of every season. The coach however remains the only manager to have won all three continental competitions - the Champions League, Super Cup and Confederation Cup in six years and imagines that the current crop of players look promising to achieve their target.

Attuquayefio won the trio with Hearts when in the new millennium he ruled Africa with Champions League and Super Cup honours over Esperance of Tunisia and Zamalek of Egypt respectively.

Five years on, the coach mentored the Phobians to capture the maiden Confederations Cup in a contest against sworn rivals Kumasi Asante Kotoko in the final game played at the Garden City.

The team this season would be without about six of their influential players who switched camp during the transfer window, but the coach insists the team would come good with or without them.

"My boys are very hungry for success and I foresee them going all out for glory".

The coach reckons the huge vacuum created by workaholic Stanley Afedzie to Hearts, skipper Mustapha Essuman, Daniel Yeboah, Komla Amewo and others to some foreign clubs, but is buoyant his boys can ride high on the inspiration of Michael Helegbe and Michael Osei among others to deliver.

The team, according to the coach is currently undergoing a rehearsed programme aimed at blending well the old and recruited players to lead their onslaught when the Premiership finally commence.

Liberty are still chasing a silverware even though their camp has produced such fine players as Michael Essien, Asamoah Gyan, Sulley Muntari, Derek Boateng and Peter Ofori Quaye among others.
