Ghana defender Awal Mohammed has signed a two-year contract with Moroccan side Raja Club Athletic, GHANAsoccernet.com can confirm.
Awal is joining his second club in 2015 after cancelling his contract with Saudi Arabian side Al Shabab following contractual disputes.
The former Asante Kotoko defender enjoyed stellar three seasons with Maritzburg United in the South African Premier League before opting for a new adventure with the Riyadh-based Al Shabab, which lasted only three months.
Raja Club Athletic confirmed on Saturday afternoon they had secured the signature of the 27-year-old defender as a free agent, with Awal expressing his delight at signing for the historic Moroccan side.
“I am delighted to have signed with Club Athletic and cannot wait to join my colleagues for the season,” he said
“The dream of every footballer is to be able to represent a historic club that will allow him to continue his development and club Athletic fits the bill.”
“I have spoken to the coach, and he has assured me that we will work together to achieve the aims of the club, and I am looking forward to that.”
Awal was a member of Ghana’s squad that came close to winning the Africa Cup of Nations in Equatorial Guinea finishing second to the Ivory Coast.
