Berekum Arsenal Eliminated from CAF Cup

05/07 - With goals scored by Mbiyavanga and Ze Calanga the team of Petro de Luanda defeated on Saturday at Cidadela Stadium Arsenal of Ghana by 2-0, and qualified to the next stage of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) Cup.

After a goal-less draw in the first leg match played in Accra, Ghana, Petro de Luanda needed to win in order to guarantee their presence in the next stage of the continental competition.

The Angolan club started to dominate the game from the first minute, with a mid-field where Jony and Mbiavanga had the mission to create the offensive plays, assisted by Chara and H`lder Vicente as the most defensive midfielders.

Despite the domain the pupils of coach Djalma Cavalcante, who was debuting in the club, could not score.

Lebo Lebo in the fourth minute received a crossing from Delgado at the left and headed the ball to outside of the field, which was Petro`s first chance to open the score.

The same player got injured in 15 minutes and was replaced by David, forcing the Brazilian coach to change the positioning of the athletes in the field.

Still thus, Petro de Luanda continued the search for goals and they did not only reach in the first half because the strikers had been prodigal in the finishing up.

Player Manucho had many chances to score but he missed the goal and sometimes Arsenal`s keeper was able to catch the balls.

In the second half the Angolan club entered with the same posture, pressuring, defending and attacking mostly in the wings exploring the speed of Z` Calanga, either in the right or in the left wing.

The Ghanaians, who seemed happy with the result, started counterattacking without any danger to the goal-post guarded by keeper Lam .

In the 61st minute, Petro de Luanda opened the score by Mbiavanga, through a penalty kick, punishing Arsenal`s Eric Puku who touched the ball with his hand.

The goal galvanized the Angolan athletes who, for several times, could extend the result.

Z` Calanga used to advantage an imperfection of the defensive sector of adversary team and scored the goal of tranquillity, in 73 minutes with a crossed shot from the right, making the ball pass under the legs of the Arsenal?s goal keeper.
