Asante Kotoko’s national Circle chairman Mr Kwadjo Nyantakyi has laid the bane of the club’s recent troubles at the door step of the wrangling among faithful of the club.

To him, that has made him distance himself from the club and has assumed a passive position in recent months. He told Happy FM’s Charles Osei Asibey on “Where are they?” that the insatiable desire to exploit the club for personal financial gains by some persons claiming to the ardent supporters is also one of the factors militating against the club. According to the national chairman, there are persons in the club who have assumed the “fault finding” posture and they condemn every initiative taken by any management they are in not in favour with.

He added: “Such people are in the club to make money at the expense of the team, and when they realize you do not dance according to their tune, the propound stories to discredit you on radio.” Mr Nyantakyi also lamented that the club’s management failure to accord those who have served the club, especially coaches the appreciation due them as well as how they tender their appointments is one major factor accounting for the clubs recent woes.

In his answer to whether he has regretted being a member of the Red Army, he responded no with reservation. A member of the Sylvester Asare Owusu Interim Management Committee , that won the league in 2000 after a decade in hibernation revealed that he threw his financial support behind the club that ensured the hiring of the services of quality charges like Yusif Chibsah, Charles Taylor and others.

He said that some charlatans hide under the pretext of demonstrating love to the club by imposing over aged players on management. Mr Nyantakyi decried how divided the Kotoko supporters front has been, but he commended the supporters of their arch-rivals Hearts of Oak for being resolute behind the club.
