Ghana’s Black Maidens have qualified for 2014 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup finals in Costa Rica after beating Equatorial Guinea 3-2 in Malabo on Saturday.
The girls went into the game with a 2-0 lead from the first-leg after beating their opponents in early November in Accra, but had to tread cautiously due to the Guineans improved play.
Evans Adotey’s girls fought for their victory and overpowered the host in front of their home fans to qualify on a 5-2 aggregate.
The Guineans with elimination staring in their face tried to claim victory but the girls scored thrice to snatch the victory and qualify for their second straight appearance at the World Cup.
Ghana became the first African side to reach a medal zone at the event after picking bronze at the last edition in Azerbaijan.
