Black Queens Left In The Dark

The women’s national football team, the Black Queens would not be able to participate in the eight-nation inaugural African Women’s under-19 championship, which kicks off on the 26th of October this year to 22nd of March 2002. The eight African countries participating include South Africa, Nigeria, Morocco, Mali, Zimbabwe, Zambia, Niger and the Central African Republic.

Announcing the fixtures over the weekend, the Confederation of African Football-CAF, said all semi finalist teams from the African Championship would qualify for the first ever Women’s under-19 World Cup.

The tournament comprises 12 countries, to be hosted by Canada from August to September next year. The under 19 championship would be held every two years.

Ghana was initially approached to host the African Championship but could not meet the demands and also failed to present a proposal to compete in the championship before 31st August.

The inability of Ghana to participate in the Championship is due to the lack of coordination and planning by soccer administrators.

No plans were put in place to raise a women’s under-19 team.
