China put eight past South Africa

China - CHINA continued their good form ahead of the Women's World Cup, with an 8-0 win over South Africa.

China's opening game at the Women's World Cup is against Ghana on September 21. In the 1999 event, the two met, with China winning 7-0.

China have now played five of the six scheduled warm-up games with a record of four wins and one loss.

Coach Ma Liangxing will be assured that, despite resting Sun Wen, the legendary foward who will be featuring in her fourth World Cup, China are still able to score with abandon, even if their World Cup opponents later this month are less accommodating than South Africa.

The first-half goals came from Li Jie, Bai Jie, Teng Wei and veteran midfielder Zhao Lihong. After the break, Bai Jie bagged China's fifth and Liu Ying made it 6-0.

Ma Liangxing brought on Han Duan to replace Bai Jie, and the move brought immediate dividends, as the substitute scored her first and her side’s seventh goal in the 59th minute. Then, 10 minutes later Teng Wei broke through on the right, left a South African defender and crossed to Han Duan, whose header rounded out the scoring.
