Black Queens drawn in 'Group of Death'

Accra, Sept. 21, GNA - Ghana's Black Queens have been handed a tough draw for the 7th African Women's Championship scheduled for October 31 to November 14 in South Africa.

The Black Queens were drawn alongside defending champions, Equatorial Guinea, Cameroon and Algeria in Group B, during the draw for the tournament held on Tuesday in Ekurhuleni City, South Africa. Host South Africa and five-time winners, Nigeria, Mali and Tanzania make up Group A.

The fixtures released on the official website of the Confederation of African Football has it that the Queens, one of the four teams to have participated in every single edition of the biennial event alongside Nigeria, South Africa and Cameroon, will open up their campaign against the Lady Fennecs of Algeria. The Queens will next face Cameroon before encountering holders Equatorial Guinea in the ultimate group phase clash. The Ghanaian team experienced their worst performance in the history of the competition during the last edition held in Equatorial Guinea where they failed to advance beyond the group stage. Matches will be held at the Sinaba Stadium in Daveyton and Makhulong Stadium in Tembisa in the Gauteng Province of Ekurhuleni Municipality. The group winners and runners-up will qualify to the semi final with the eventual winners progressing to the final. The finalists will also represent Africa at the next edition of the FIFA Women's World Cup slated for Germany from 26 June to 17 July, 2011. 21 Sept. 10
