Black Stars for Harare Minus Foreign-Based Players

THE Black Stars are expected to leave for South Africa, en route to Zimbabwe tomorrow to play the Warriors of Zimbabwe in a crucial group six Nations Cup qualifier in Bulawayo on Sunday.

The Ghanaian contingent will be joined by three Goldfields players, Princeton Owusu-Ansah, Kofi Amoako and Isaac Boakye in Johannesburg.


As at yesterday, only one foreign-based player, Adu-Gyamfi Granini, out of about eight professionals invited, had reported to camp. Two of the eight professionals who were recalled after a long absence — Eric Addo and Nii Odartey Lamptey — never responded to the invitation.


This is in spite of the fact that most foreign-based players are in the country for holidays. This attitude has compelled Stars coach, Fred Osam Duodu to limit his invitation to only three players; Emmanuel Duah, Charles Amoah and Kwame Ayew.

The Stars who currently top the group six table with seven points, one point adrift of their opponents, need victory to consolidate their position while the runners-up are desperate to assume the lead with victory.
