Football agent and scout, Nana Kwame Kwarteng says Ghanaian footballers are failing to make the cut abroad, because they are being tricked by agents to leave the shores of the country for better contracts even though they are not yet developed.

In recent times, most Ghanaian players fail to break into teams and return back home after a brief spell.

According to Nana Kwame Kwarteng, some agents are only interested in making monies out of these players and do not factor the development and progression of players.

“I will blame we the agents, because we play a 40% role in player transfer and also help the clubs get money, we don’t make the players ripe before we take them outside. The player exodus does not help the Ghana league”.

“A Club will sign a player for two years and he will perform in the first year. In the second year that he is in top form, the agents will tell him not to renew his contract by promising him of a deal outside and the club loses. So if the club is not able to develop quality players to be transferred outside, then they all lose big time”, he quizzed.

He advised football agents to approach club owners and presidents to negotiate a good deal that will help both parties.

“Clubs have to open to clubs and vice versa. Agents should not be afraid to talk to club owners and presidents in terms of negotiations. Every club president will accept a good negotiation so that both parties will benefit. Clubs need money to make their clubs attractive so they can benefit from Corporate Ghana”, he stated.

A recent survey conducted by CEIS, indicated Ghana as the second largest exporter of footballers in Africa.
