Boakye Nears New Ajax Deal

Amsterdam - May 3, 2006 -- Ghana star Emmanuel Boakye is about to sign a new two-year contract with Ajax Amsterdam, the club has said.

The 21-year-old, who has played for the Dutch at junior level and not in Ghana?s World Cup plans, broke into the first team in recent months and has been regularly selected for the side by coach Danny Blind.

?We are almost at the point of agreement,? Ajax director Martin van Geel told reporters.

?Emmanuel can start preparing in the coming summer to make a big impact with us. But if that doesn?t materialise then we also have the option to hire him out to gain experience."

Already another Dutch side, Heracles Almelo have expressed an interest in the central defender/right back.
