Board of Directors accept resignation of Arthur

Sunyani, (B/A) June 14, GNA - The Board of Directors of Brong-Ahafo United Football Club has accepted the resignation of its chief executive, Mr. George Arthur.

A letter addressed to Mr. Arthur dated June 14, 2004 and signed by Mr. Joe Boahen, Executive Secretary of the club said: "As a result of your announcement made on FM radio stations in Sunyani and at other stations across the country, the Board met last Saturday to deliberate on the issue".

The Board recalled that before the commencement of the said meeting, the Board Secretary was charged to invite Mr. Arthur to the meeting to clear the air, adding that even though the Secretary reported back that Mr. Arthur had promised to attend "in 10 minutes' time" members patiently waited for well over one hour without a word from him (Mr. Arthur).

"The Board said it was therefore without prejudice that it has directed the writing of the letter to accept your resignation as the chief executive officer of the club", the letter stated.

The letter said much as the Board would not wish to engage Mr. Arthur in any legal battle, it called on him to hand over any property of the club in his possession to Mr. Boahen, the Board's Secretary "as soon as possible".

The Board wished Mr. Arthur good luck in his future endeavours. Meanwhile, the Board has cautioned supporters, players or executives of the club to refrain from granting interviews to any of the FM stations or the press in general, either within or outside Sunyani on any issue concerning the club, especially with regard to the resignation of Mr. Arthur and the Board's decision to accept the chief executive officer's announcement of his resignation on radio.

Investigations conducted by the GNA Sports revealed that Mr. Arthur apart from announcing his resignation on the FM radios in Sunyani and elsewhere had not officially written to the Board.

Copies of the Board's acceptance letter were sent to the Chairman and Secretary of the Ghana Football Association, Chairman of the Professional League Board (PLB), Chairman of Ghana League Clubs Association (GHALCA), Brong Ahafo Regional Sports Development Officer, Sports Council of Ghana, Sunyani, Accra Representative of B.A. United and all the premier clubs featuring in the current novelty zones "A" and "B" league and the Press.

All efforts by the GNA Sports in Sunyani to get Mr. Arthur's comment on the Board's letter on Monday proved futile.
