Board to decide on league resumption

THE PROFESSIONAL League Board (PLB) will hold an emergency meeting today to decide when the league should resume after the Accra disaster.

According to the chairman of the board, Sylvester Mensah, whatever decision the PLB arrives at today will take into consideration the existence of the Presidential Commission set up to investigate the stadium disaster.

Some club officials and players, as well as some members of the FA and its associated bodies, will be asked to give evidence.

MEANWHILE, SOURCES close to the Ghana Football Association (GFA) say that African Football Confederation (CAF) may accept a request by the Ghanaian football authorities to extend the deadline for the submission of the list of clubs which will participate in next year's Club Championships by national federations.

The request has been made in the light of the suspension of the Star Premier League as a result of last week's Accra Sports Stadium tragedy, which is likely to affect the country's football calendar.

The general secretary of the GFA, who spoke to officials at the CAF headquarters in Cairo, specifically sought an extension of the deadline from November to December, by which time the Ghanaian League would have run its full course.

The source said the FA's request received a favourable response, with a directive from the CAF secretariat asking that a formal petition be sent by the GFA.
