Ghana midfielder Derek Boateng has suffered relegation with Fulham just within a year of joining the English club.

The Cottagers fell to a crushing 4-1 loss to Stoke City on Saturday afternoon while Sunderland’s 1-0 win at Manchester United spelled doom for Felix Magath’s side.

A late consolation goal scored by Kieran Richardson did very little to save Fulham as goals from Peter Odemwingie, Marko Arntaunovic, Oussama Assaidi and Jonathan Walters crashed them to the Championship.

Fulham will now be exiting the Premier League after staying in contention for 13 years in the English top flight.

Their relegation serves further hurt for Ghana midfielder Derek Boateng who struggled for games after making his dream move to the Premier League last summer.

The 31-year-old who joined the side full of promise of regaining his form after a woeful spell in Ukraine with FC Dnipro made just three Premier League appearances for the Cottagers.

Boateng as a result is totally out of contention for a place in Ghana’s squad for the 2014 World Cup in Brazil this June.

The ex-Getafe man’s future at Craven Cottage is now uncertain despite having one more year left to run on his existing deal.

He has been a journey man all through his football career which has seen him play in Israel, Sweden, Germany, Spain, Ukraine and England.
