Bofoakwa Chairman resigns

With barely two weeks to the commencement of the 2005 premier league, the chairman of the Interim Management Committee (IMC) of Tano Bofoakwa Football Club, Joe Bennett has called it quits.

In a short letter of resignation addressed to the chairman of the Board of Directors, and chanced upon by Space Fm, Mr. Bennett stated among other things, lack of financial support and continuous infighting within the club as his reason for the decision. ?I will continue to support the team I love so much in diverse ways?, the statement added.

Later, he told Kwabena Kyere Stugard of SPACE FM that his decision to resign is irrevocable. ?I?ve carefully thought over this issue for a very long time and would never reconsider this decision? he insisted.

Joe Bennett was appointed to head a five member team to run the affairs of the club on an interim basis at the beginning of 2004 when the then chairman of the club Nii Adjin mysteriously resigned.

Tano Bofoakwa is notoriously known for managerial crises at the beginning of every season. Three different chairmen have handled the club in the last three seasons including former Kotoko star Ebo Mends.

At the time of this publication the Board of Directors were at a meeting with the IMC members including Joe Bennett. It is however not clear whether Mr. Bennett would reconsider his decision or not.

Meanwhile the chairman?s resignation has met mix reaction from the supporters of the club. Whilst some believe the decision is ill-timed, others think it is rather better now than to leave the team in the middle of the season, like George Arthur did in the case of Brong Ahafo United. They were however unanimous in their call to the former chairman to come out to explain in detail the reasons assigned for his decision.

Stay tuned!
