Brentford Massacre: Redknapp was there

Portsmouth boss Harry Redknapp has admitted that up to "14" players that featured in Ghana's stunning victory over Nigeria last week caught his eye.

Redknapp was at Brentford's Griffin Park to take in Ghana against Nigeria, prompting speculation he's planning a raid on the cream of African talent this summer.

The two nations displayed some enterprising football, with the Black Stars producing a stirring 4-1 win.

And the Pompey boss admitted it was hard not to be impressed with the majority of players involved.

"It was a good game," said Redknapp. "A really exciting match.

"About 12 or 14 caught my eye, to be honest - there were some fantastic players out there.

"There were top performers in both teams. Yakubu and Kanu were on the bench for Nigeria which says it all really.

"Michael Essien, of Chelsea, was playing for Ghana with (Stephen) Appiah in midfield – they're quality players, playing for big clubs. Sulley Muntari as well was playing for Ghana and I like him a lot.

"Physically they are all terrific athletes playing at the top level in the best leagues in the world."
