Brong-Ahafo Regional Women's Football Association (BAWFA)

Sunyani (B/A), April 01, GNA --A nine-member interim executive committee has been formed as the first-ever Brong-Ahafo Regional Women's Football Association (BAWFA) with Madam Afia Aboraa as the Chairperson. Other members appointed at a meeting held in Sunyani on Wednesday, include Mrs. Evelyn Nsia Asare of Sunyani-based Space FM Radio as Vice-Chairperson.

Mr. Adoma Adjei was appointed for the post of Secretary, Mr. Dominic Peprah Yeboah, Assistant-Secretary, Madam Alice Adjoboa-Appau, Sports mistress of Odomaseman Secondary School, near Sunyani, Financial Secretary and Mr. Okofo Dartey, Organising Secretary.

Mr. Samuel Bawuah Frimpong of Ghana Telecom (GHATEL) Women's F/C, Sunyani and Mr. Thomas Osei Ampoma of Biadan-Berekum Future Ladies F/C as club representatives, while Messrs Paa Nii Stevenson of Ghana News Agency, Sunyani and Kwabena Kyere Dickson alias "Stutgard" of Space FM Radio represent the Press on the Association.

Other representatives of football clubs present at the meeting were Abayoyo (rpt Abayoyo) and Kumapim Ladies both based at Japekrom, Atuna Victory Ladies and Abisco Ladies of Abirikasu, all in the Jaman district. The rest are Rangers' Ladies of Business/Secondary School (SUBSEC), Penkwase-Sunyani, Golden Ladies, Sunyani, Ghana Education Service (GES) Ladies and Nsoatreman Ladies.

Mr. Kwabena Munufie, Secretary of the Brong-Ahafo Regional Football Association (BARFA) explained the essence of the formation of the Association saying it is to help steer the affairs of women football in the region and that the idea was in conformity with the Ministry of Youth and Sports' avowed aim to improve women sports throughout the 10 Regions of the country.

Mr. Munufie said there was a difference between BAWFA from the already Women in Sports Association in the region, stressing that, "just as the name explains BAWFA is solely for women's soccer". He expressed the hope that the new interim executive would do its utmost best to unearth talents in women soccer in the region so that women footballers of international repute can be produced like their men counterparts such as Kwasi Owusu, Dan Owusu, Adasi Fofie, Barnie Junior and Senior to ensure competitive women soccer in the region. He advised other women football clubs in the region to identify themselves with association by registering with it so as to be in the main stream of women soccer in the region.

Mr. Munufie announced that a yearly membership enrolment fee of 300,000 cedis was to be paid by each registered club to the Association. Madam Aboraa thanked the Regional F.A. for the honour done her and her colleagues and promised that with the cooperation of the other executive members she was optimistic that they will contribute their quota towards ensuring that the region is represented in the selection of players for national assignments in women soccer. Madam Aboraa donated a cash of 200,000 cedis to the Association in appreciation of the honour done them and said the donation is to assist the association become operative in its initial stage.
