Cape Coast, Feb.13, GNA - The Central Regional chairman of the Ghana Football Association, Mr Matthew Doe on Wednesday announced that the region's Division II soccer league would commence on Sunday, March 2, 2008.
Mr Doe, who made the announcement during a meeting with the chairmen and representatives of the clubs at the Robert Mensah Stadium said fifty football clubs would participate in the league. He appealed to the various clubs indebted to the association to endeavour to pay up before the league starts.
The chairman also expressed concern about hooliganism, which had in the past characterized Division II league matches and appealed to club chairmen to educate their supporters to comport themselves during all league matches.
Mr Doe pointed out that the objective of soccer was to promote fraternity and friendly relationships and therefore asked players to exhibit good sportsmanship and not turn the stadiums into battle fields during league matches.
He warned that the association would deal drastically with players and supporters who misbehaved during league matches.
