CAF Inspection Team expresses satisfaction with Ghana's preparations

Accra, Jan. 6, GNA - An Inspection Team of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) led by CAF Executive Member, Mr Slim Aloulou, has expressed satisfaction with the level of preparations and progress Ghana is making towards the successful hosting of the 2008 African Cup of Nations (CAN) tournament.

It found it reassuring the determination and enthusiasm demonstrated by the country, saying, "We foresee a successful tournament".

"We are convinced that given the huge budgetary allocations, the stadia projects, being undertaken by the country will be completed within the stipulated time frame".

Mr Aloulou summed up the findings of the Team when members called on President John Agyekum Kufuor at the Castle, Osu, on Friday. He said with work already started on the Sekondi-Takoradi, Tamale and Kumasi stadia, there were clear signs that things were going on well and as planned.

Mr Aloulou said since the Nations Cup was now keenly followed not only by people on the continent but from all over the world, CAF was determined to ensure that the tournament's organisation was not fraught with any hiccups.

It was for this reason that Ghana should expect frequent inspections by the Confederation to advise, interact and exchange ideas with the Local Organising Committee for a fantastic tournament. President Kufuor said he was happy the Team was satisfied with the progress of work so far done. He said Ghana was taking the hosting CAN 2008 as part of its Golden Jubilee Celebration and would do everything to make it a memorable event.

President Kufuor said although the event involved huge financial cost, the investment was worth it and that the country might even go beyond the four stadia and built an extra one as a stand-by. "We are not joking at all. We want to take Africa again in 2008", he added.
