CAN 2008 Mascot name to be unveiled in October

Accra, Sept. 26, GNA - The name of the Mascot of the Ghana 2008 Africa Cup of Nations will be unveiled on October 19 during the main draw of the competition.

The ceremony which forms part of series of activities lined up by the Local Organising Committee (LOC) is also to offer the general public the opportunity to view the mascot that is to coincide with the draw fixed for the Accra International Conference Centre.

Magnus Rex Danquah, Chief Operating Officer of the LOC told the GNA Sports that the naming of the mascot was fixed alongside the draw in their quest to make the event a grand and memorable one.

The Mascot of the 26th edition of continent's showpiece soccer event, an Eagle clad in a traditional cloth of Kente with a ball at its feet was out-doored to the football fraternity during the Global Launch of the competition last October.

Alhaji Issa Hayatou, President of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) will grace the event, which will have members of the Executive Committee of CAF in attendance.

The competition is scheduled for January 20 - February 10, 2008.
