CHAN 2014: GFA boss and Sports Minister confident of victory

Ghana Sports Minister Hon. Elvis Afriyie Ankrah and FA President Kwesi Nyantakyi took time out to observe the Black Stars final training session ahead of Saturday evening’s CHAN final against Libya.

The two sports administrators both watched Ghana’s hard fought semi-final win over Nigeria on Wednesday and have charged the players and officials to go all out to make history by lifting Ghana’s first major title at senior level since 1982.

‘’I want to once again congratulate the team for reaching the final of this tournament especially with the high level we have all witnessed in this edition. I also urge each player to give above average output on Saturday and make Ghana proud’’.

Afriyie Ankrah who delivered a special message to the team from President Mahama, paid tribute to the commitment and determination of the players and coach Maxwell Konadu describing them as potential history makers. Joining the Minister to inspire the team, FA Chief Kwesi Nyantakyi observed that there has been a remarkable turn-around in confidence.

‘’Suddenly everyone is hailing Ghana as hot favourites to lift the trophy but just two matches ago, there were more doubts than hope and that shows you how far they have come’’ The two men have called for prayers for the team who are 90 minutes away from glory.

Meanwhile players and officials of the Black Stars have heaped tons of appreciation on the teaming Ghanaian supporters who have been ever present at Ghana’s matches throughout the tournament.

‘’Even though we are in a world Cup year, these supporters have gone the extra mile and made sacrifices for the team to ensure that their voices are heard on the terraces which has been a significant contributor to our relative success so far’’.

Hon. Afriyie Ankrah has assured Ghanaians that there is not a hint of complacency in the Ghanaian squad but rather total focus and determination ahead of the clash.

‘’I am confident that the boys will approach the game with all seriousness and remain focused on the task ahead. The coach has told them that being in the final does not guarantee the trophy; they must work for it’’.

GSI can confirm that the Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II will be among the special guests of CAF which also includes FIFA President Sepp Blatter and UEFA boss Michel Platini.
