CITYLINK makes inaugural flight to Tamale

Tamale (N/R), May 11, GNA - CTK Aviation, operators of CITYLINK that offers both domestic and charter flights, has made its inaugural flight to Tamale in line with plans to provide regular and frequent flights to the three top local business destinations outside Accra. Hajia Alima Mahama, the Minister of Women and Children's Affairs who performed the launch, said the region was one of the fastest growing business destinations.

She said the tourism potential of the region was yet to be realised and was happy that CityLink was taking advantage to launch flight services at this time.

Hajia Mahama expressed the hope that the flight services would be dependable and reliable to enable people build confidence to sustain operations.

Mohammed Amin Adam, the Deputy Northern Regional Minister, said the addition of the new route would open up the region to visitors and investors for accelerated development.

He said the region was in the process of launching a comprehensive tourism drive and the availability of flight services to the region will encourage visitors to explore the tourism potentials in the various communities in the region.

Besides, plans to transform the airport to an international one would only materialise when the airport was made busier with the presence of many flights.

"We are proud to launch today this next addition to our route network: The Accra to Tamale route services," Group Captain Frank Okyne (RTD), Chairman of CITYLINK, told the crowd who gathered at the Tamale airport to welcome the passengers on the maiden flight.

"This is the first of the series of new routes to be added in line with our programme of route network expansion to continue linking cities together," he added.

There will be three weekly flights to Tamale on Mondays, Thursdays and Fridays.

The company operates daily flights between Accra and Kumasi and also provides charter services in West Africa.

Flight services to Takoradi will also be launched soon. Group Capt Okyne said CTK Aviation had come so far because of its ability to blend the experiences of highly trained professionals with best international business principles.

"This is a strategy that has paid off and has led to the envious mark of quality service, which we are able to offer our clients," he said adding that the result had been an impeccable safety record due to its strict adherence to international safety standards. 11 May 06
