Call for my resignation baseless - Djarbeng

Mr Douglas Djarbeng, the Chairman of the Division One league board (DOL), has reacted to a call for his resignation by Sheik Ibrahim Antwi, Executive Chairman of Kumasi Cornerstone.

Mr Djarbeng said he was shocked at the call, especially at the time the DOL is doing everything humanly possible to ensure that the division one league commences this Saturday.

He told the GNA Sports that the claims by Ibrahim Antwi are mischievous and lacked substance. " The man is simply trying to be difficult and stubborn to face reality."

In effect, the DOL boss said the executive chairman was only making unnecessary noise because the issue concerns his club. He said Sheik has no cause to compare All Blacks and Cornerstones, since the two are in two different zones. "What will I gain if Corners stay or go on relegation? One gets tempted to believe that either the rules governing the game are too sophisticated for his consumption or he is just refusing to understand a clear case."

He said it is never in the interest of any one to relegate any team and asked, "why are Vipers, a team that Mr. Ben Koufie, Chairman of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), was affiliated to, relegated when the GFA had the power to maintain them in the league"?

Sheik Ibrahim Antwi, Executive Chairman of Kumasi Cornerstone, last Monday called at a special meeting between the club's management and the playing body and claimed that the club's final standing after the zone two "A" matches was questionable.

He claimed that his club, which had 14 points after the league, has been relegated while teams like Swedru All Blacks on 12 points, Gagross, 11, and Vipers nine points have been retained.

"If Corners had 14 points and All Blacks had 12 points, the club found it difficult to comprehend why Corners should be relegated and All Blacks retained in Division One", he queried.
