Kumasi, Jan 18, GNA - The Cameroonian Senior National Team, the Indomitable Lions, one of the expected top contenders of the forthcoming African Cup of Nations (CAN) Tournament, on Friday arrived to a tumultuous welcome by their supporters and football fans at the Kumasi Airport.

The 30-man contingent together with officials of the team, were met on arrival by Madam Patricia Appiagyei, Kumasi Metropolitan Chief Executive (MCE) and officials of the Kumasi Venue Organizing Committee (KVOC). Most fans, including local Ghanaian supporters and their counterparts from Cameroon, clad in red, yellow and green colours of the National team waved miniature flags of the Indomitable Lions as the players disembarked from the Air Force plane which brought them to Kumasi. Cameroon are paired alongside Egypt, Zambia and Sudan in Group C, a group which many football connoisseurs have tipped them and Egypt, two former champions to sail through to the next stage of the tournament. Cameroon have won the CAN Cup on four occasions whiles Egypt are on record to have annexed the Cup on five occasions, a development which puts the two teams at an advantageous position to sail through to the next round based on their previous experience and history at similar competitions.

As the team passed through the principal streets of Kumasi to the Georgia Hotel, where they are to lodge, some residents wearing the jerseys of the indomitable Lions were seen carrying placards bearing the portraits of some notable players, including Samuel Eto`o Fils, skipper Rigobert Song and Geremi Njitap.

Officials of the team refused to grant the press any interview, saying that the team was too tired to interact with the media after their uninterrupted journey to Ghana.

The team is expected to start it first training session at the Wesley College Park in Kumasi. 18 Jan. 08
