Canada-based Ghanaian eyes Satellites call

Accra, Oct. 12, GNA - Gershon Koffie, a 19-year-old Ghanaian based in Canada is relishing a call up to the national Under-20 side, Black Satellites.

Koffie, who plays for Vancouver Whitecaps, a second tier club in the Canadian league, is keen on playing for Ghana and sees the Black Satellites as the major stepping stone in realizing that dream. The young midfielder was on target for the club last Thursday, when they played Portland Timbers in a tensed league game. Koffie fetched the opener in the 56th minute of the game to start the 2-0 win over their opponents.

Though he may not have the opportunity to play in the qualifiers for the 2011 Africa Youth Championship in Libya against Benin on October 24 this year, Koffie is convinced the technical handlers of the team would provide him the opportunity to justify his inclusion for the tournament.

The Satellites are one step away from qualification as they host Benin in the final round of the qualifiers at the Ohene Djan Stadium, Accra.

Having won the first leg 2-0, the Satellites look set to qualify for the competition with the second leg slated for home.
