Nkawie, Oct 23, GNA - Dr Yaw Kwaah, a private medical practitioner and chairman of Kufuor Stars Football Club, a second division club based at Nkawie, has advised supporters of the club to desist from acts of hooliganism and indiscipline both on and off the field to raise the image of the club.

He said any club noted for hooliganism and indiscipline is out to tarnish its name but that of its management.

Speaking at the fund-raising ceremony of the club at Nkawie on Sunday, Dr Kwaah said hooliganism and other acts of indiscipline by supporters of a club robbed it of respect and support outside its base. He said a club should aim at winning supporters not only at its base but outside it as well and this could be achieved only when the fans and players showed maturity in the face of provocation.

Mr B.B. Yirenkyi, chairman of the board of directors of Atwima-Mponua Rural Bank, advised the management and players to co-operate to enable the club gain promotion to the first division. He appealed to Atwima citizens resident abroad and the district assembly to assist in rehabilitating and fencing the Nkawie park for sporting activities.

Dr James Barnie, a member of the board of directors of Obuasi Goldfields Sporting Club, who is a citizen of Nkawie, called for support for the club to enable it perform better.

More than eleven million cedis was realized during fund-raising in aid of the club.
