After clinching a historic Glo Ghana Premier League title, Berekum Chelsea have quickly shifted focus to participating and excelling in next year’s African Champions’ League, Yusif Abubakar, assistant coach of the new Ghana champions has revealed.

Perennial runaway leaders Chelsea sealed the 2010/11 Ghanaian championship with three games to spare following last Wednesday’s 1-0 win over Real Tamae United at the Berekum Golden City Park.

This is the second successive season that the Ghana League crown has been won by a club other than Kumasi Asante Kotoko or Accra Hearts of Oak. Berekum Chelsea also become the second club from the Brong Ahafo Region to lift the Premier League title, after rivals Aduana Stars made history in the 2009/2010 season.

But Chelsea assistant coach Yusif Abubakar says the Berekum based side are not partying yet, instead their eyes are firmly set on adding more silverware to their just beginning trophy room.

Chelsea are also in the quarter finals of the re-launched MTN FA Cup and coach Abubakar says his charges will not be satisfied unless they add that trophy to the Glo Ghana League diadem. Beyond that, next year’s CAF Champions’ League is another competition which has gained the attention of Chelsea bigwigs.

“I’m sure management have started planning to add more players like Habib Mohammed who played in the World Cup in 2006 to beef up the team for Africa next year.

“We are going to prepare adequately to see how best we can make an impact in the CAF Champions’ League because we need to restore Ghana’s sunken image in that competition,” Coach Yusif Abubakar said in the ecstasy of claiming their first league title after only three seasons in the Ghanaian top-flight.
