Chief Imam commends Stephen Appiah for Vodafone Unity Match initiative

The National Chief Imam, His Eminence Dr. Sheikh Usman Nuhu Sharubutu, has commended former Black Stars captain, Stephen Appiah, for initiating the Vodafone Unity Match 2016, ahead of the 2016 Presidential and Parliamentary Elections.

Sheikh Sharubutu, said "i am fully in support of of this idea of promoting peace promoting peace in Ghana and the world as a whole.

“I have always advocated for peace and I’m honoured to receive you. You have my blessings as you embark on a peaceful journey, I call for peace across the world and Ghana as a whole,” Sheikh Sharabutu noted.

Chief Imam made this remarks, when Appiah, who doubles as "Peace Ambassador" called on him at his residence.

Appiah, expressed appreciation to the Chief Imam for his warm reception, saying ‘thank you for receiving us as you initially did for my testimonial match and appreciate the love shown me".

"I feel honoured to be here and share with you my plans to have invited ex-footballers to help me use football to promote peace as we all want to avoid violence before, during and after election 2016,” he added.

Appiah, who had earlier on visited the chairman of the National Peace Council (NPC)is using the tour to officially invite the Chief Imam to his Vodafone Unity Peace Match ahead of the Ghana elections 2016.

The former Black Stars captain, said, “I am here to inform you on my peace tour, which is aimed at promoting peace and unity before, during and after the elections and officially invite you to the Vodafone Unity Match 2016, organized by Primeval Media”.

Appiah on June 8 and 11 would lead World Select Side, side in the Vodafone Unity Match 2016 as they play games against Kumasi Asante Kotoko and the Ghana Black Stars at the Kumasi and Accra Sports Stadia respectively.

Vodafone Ghana is the major headline sponsor for the two-legged affair which is dubbed ‘The VUM 2016.
