City Islanders Sign Sumed Ibrahim

(Harrisburg, Pa., May 6, 2005) ? USL Second Division (USLSD) Harrisburg City Islanders have announced the signing of midfielder Sumed Ibrahim, a 2003 Hermann Trophy Finalist, two-time First Team All-American, and second-round draft pick of Major League Soccer?s Chicago Fire in 2004.

The team has also added goalkeeper Sam Bishop, a product of Lehigh University.


Sumed Ibrahim, (5-9, 150 pounds) earned a slew of honors at the University of Maryland, including First Team All-American honors in 2002 and 2003. In 2003, the native of Tamale, Ghana, was a finalist for the Hermann Trophy, collegiate soccer?s equivalent of the Heisman. He was also a three-time First Team All-ACC selection. Sumed (according to his culture, it is correct to use his full or primary name when second-referencing him) scored 25 goals and 78 points in 86 games at Maryland.

The 24-year-old was taken by the Fire with the 20th overall pick in the 2004 MLS SuperDraft. He appeared in three games (one start) for Chicago in 2004, totaling 82 minutes.
