Frenchman Claude Le Roy has been named by the Ghana Football Association(GFA) as the new coach for the Ghana national football team - Black Stars.
Leroy, who beat off competition from compatriot Philippe Troussier and Ghanaian Cecil Jones Attuquayefio, takes over from Serbian Ratomir Dujkovic, who resigned in July after the Black Stars' successful showing at the FIFA World Cup in Germany.
He will have a monthly salary of 20,000 euro ($25,000/ 244million cedis) with no signing on fee.
The job takes effect from 1st October and his immediate assignment will be the international friendly match with Japan on 4th October.
Leroy's African coaching resume includes Cameroon, with whom he won the 1988 African Nations Cup, Senegal (1990-92) and most recently the Democratic Republic of Congo
Also amongst teams he has coached are United Arab Emirates club Al-Shabah, French team Strasbourg as well as Chinese club Shanghai Cosco. He also enjoyed a stint as Malaysian national team coach.
His task is to build a strong team for the 2008 Nations Cup, which Ghana is hosting and to take the Black Stars to the 2010 World Cup finals in South Africa.
