Clubs Seek Government Funding

Fri, 1 Mar 2002 Source: Joy Online

Accra Hearts of Oak and Kumasi Asante Kotoko have indicated to the Ghana Football Association to impress upon Government of Ghana to fund their Continental club participation this year.

The source said both clubs have written to the FA to seek government’s assistance as the huge bill expected to be incurred runs into billions of cedis which does not reconcile with the income expected to be generated.

Both clubs have asked the FA to fund the bill for CAF’s officiating fee, which runs into thousands of dollars.

It is believed that the Ghana League Clubs Association (GHALCA) would not take kindly to the proposal by the two clubs especially Asante Kotoko.

GHALCA officials are said to be very upset with Asante Kotoko for pulling out and would stall both clubs efforts at securing government funds.

GHALCA would also like to seek for funding for all clubs coming at a time when the leagues major sponsors, Ghana Brewery are considering redrawing its sponsorship agreement with the FA.
