Ghana goalkeeper Fatau Dauda has been named in the starting line-up of Orlando Pirates for the first time in a competitive match against Free State Stars later today, GHANAsoccernet.com can exclusively reveal.

The first choice Black Stars goalkeeper was chosen ahead of regular Senzo Meyiwa who limped off in Pirates’ defeat to Mamelodi Sundowns last Saturday. Dauda gets his first ever start in a competitive match since joining the Bucs at the beginning of the season.

The 28-year-old has had to endure the neglect of being left to warm the bench during Roger De Sa’s reign.

He was only picked to play during just a few friendly matches but has been handed a lifeline by interim coach Eric Tinkler in the wake of Meyiwa’s poor form.

The ex AshantiGold shot-stopper now has a unique opportunity to prove himself worthy of the number one spot with the South African giants.

The move could also spell doom for of Senzo Meyiwa once Dauda impresses in post today with the Ghanaian enjoying immense support from the club fans.

The sudden turn of events could be Dauda’s blessing as he was desperate for a run of games to keep him sharp ahead of the 2014 World Cup where he is expected to maintain his starting role for the Black Stars.
