The Ghana football association – GFA has come under numerous attack and criticism on how the association’s flagship, the Ghana premier league has and is been handled in relation to sponsorship, marketing and how to attract fans to match centres – stadium.

Kwesi Nyantakyi, head of the GFA has been the face of the FA since he took office in 2005 and was tasked with salvaging a declining league and then an “unattractive national team” – Black stars. The FA president has been successful with the national team assignment but has struggled to replicate the influx of sponsors the Black stars enjoy in the domestic game.

2014/15 Ghana premier league headline sponsor, First capital plus has temporarily halted their sponsorship deal stating the decision has come about as a result of the financial institution undergoing reconstruction – now complete the financial institution is named, Capital plus bank. The decision according to the FA is not part of what they agreed in a Ghc10m deal that was signed to run for 5-years. However the decision has given the FA sleepless nights as they try to find the league a sponsor before the 20th Feb kick off date for the 2015/16 season.

But in an interesting turn of event one time GFA boss and predecessor to Nyantakyi, Dr. Nyaho Tamakloe has called for the bashing solely focused at Kwesi Nyantakyi to be shared as he’s not in this sponsorship mess alone.

“The FA president has a team he has entrusted with a job – as he can’t do it all and in that regard cant be blamed alone; even if so the president won’t deliberately delay the league,” he told Boss 93.7 fm.

He added, “the main challenge facing the fa is securing a sponsorship deal for the deal and i am confident he’s not sitting ideal in relation to securing a deal, if the coperate world don’t want to come on board what else can he do.”

The Ghana premier league resumes on Feb 20 but the FA is yet to find a new headline sponsor.
