Don’t think about Zambia : Nana Agyemang cautions Black Stars

Astute football analyst Nana Kwaku Agyemang insists nothing has changed in the race to see who progresses from Africa World Cup qualifying group D even after Zambia had a loss overturned in their favour.

The African champions’ bid for a first ever World Cup qualification received a massive boost earlier this week when FIFA ruled that Sudan had erred in using Saif Ali against the Chipolopolo in a 2014 World Cup qualifier in Khartoum back in June.

Zambia who lost the said game 0-2 have now been credited with three points and three goals to jump atop the group on maximum points from two games whilst the Black Stars have just three with four group matches to go for each side.

And even though Zambia play two consecutive matches against minnows Lesotho next when Ghana honour a tougher task against Sudan, UEFA licensed coach, Nana Agyemang insists all is not lost. “First of all I don’t think we should think about what Zambia do or not. We should remain focused on what we have to do which is to win all our matches,” Agyemang told 90 MINUTES.

He added: “Nothing has changed. We were second in the group before the verdict, we are still second. Before the group matches, we knew we had to win all our matches to qualify. At the end of the day, nothing significant has changed, we still have to win all our group matches. It’s just as simple as that.”

Nana Agyemang is however adamant on the question if the Black Stars have what it takes to win all their matches: “It’s not for me to predict, all I can say is that I know the formulae which is to win all our games. “But quite clearly, we have to step up. We are not cohesive enough, we are not prolific enough and we need a lot of overall improvement to win all our matches.

“By and large, we should make sure players who are in top form are those called for the qualifying matches.”
